As your new interim moderator, I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself. I was born and educated in the market town of Ballymoney in the north east corner of Northern Ireland.
I initially trained as a primary school teacher and taught for a number of years in Londonderry before feeling a call into ordained ministry. Each person has a different story to tell as to how they felt a calling to ministry. For me that calling began in Jamaica where I worked in an orphanage whilst on summer vacation from teaching in Londonderry. I pursued that calling at Princeton Theological Seminary, in the USA, for four years during which time I met my wife, Hannah, a Canadian. A desire to extend my theological study led us both to Scotland and specifically to New College to do a PhD. We have a five year old boy called Rowan who has just begun school.
In February 2009 I was ordained and inducted to St John’s Parish Church in Gourock. I have now been appointed as your interim moderator and I look forward to my time with you.
